A 2005 graduate of Sherrard High School, Bryant J. (BJ) Luxmore was an avid football and baseball player. Lettering in both all four years of high school, BJ went on to play baseball at the collegiate level at Monmouth College and then Illinois College. After honoring his parents wishes of graduating with a Bachelor's degree, Bryant enlisted in the U.S. Army in April 2011.
B.J. deployed to Afghanistan where he was killed in action, June 10, 2012. He was posthumously promoted to Corporal, awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge.
Each year the Bryant J. Luxmore Memorial Foundation acts as a means of giving back, giving yearly student scholarships to Sherrard and Mercer County student athletes that demonstrate the core values of Loyalty, Duty, Honor, and Selfless Service within their communities.
His first entry in his journal he kept in Afghanistan read… ”If you don’t live for something, you will die for nothing.”
